Fewer than four in 10 U.S. public e-commerce storefronts can complete a purchase made by an AI agent from start to finish, according to new InMobi research covering 3 million of the nation’s digital merchants. InMobi, a global technology company powering the future of agentic commerce and advertising, today introduced “Ready, Set, Agent,” a free tool that evaluates any public storefront against 80 live checks and returns a graded agentic commerce readiness report in seconds.
The analysis found that 36 percent of storefronts measured were technically configured to support an agent-led purchase from product discovery through payment. Another 15 percent can support cart and checkout but still have gaps in how agents discover and interpret the store, while 12 percent are readable by agents but do not yet expose a complete transaction path. The remaining 37 percent sit on platforms InMobi has not yet scanned.
“Ready, Set, Agent” draws on InMobi’s work building the infrastructure that connects AI-driven discovery, commerce experiences and transactions across mobile devices and digital storefronts. That experience informed the 80 checks used in the assessment, which measure the signals and commerce capabilities agents rely on as they move from finding a product through completing a purchase.
“Agentic commerce is becoming a new distribution layer for retail, and the advantage will grow for the retailers that start learning to operate in it early,” said Abhay Singhal, Co-founder of InMobi and CEO of InMobi Advertising. “Every time an agent discovers a product, evaluates an offer or completes a transaction, it creates another signal about how that retailer can participate in the next decision. Nearly two-thirds of U.S. storefronts still cannot support the full journey today, which leaves significant room for retailers to improve their position. The first step is knowing exactly where agents can work with your store today, where they run into problems, and what will have the greatest impact if you fix it.”
“Ready, Set, Agent” Turns Readiness Into an 80-Point Storefront Assessment
“Ready, Set, Agent” evaluates each storefront using 80 live probes across 11 categories, with every check tied to a step an agent must complete to make a purchase.
The tool first determines whether agents can find and access the store. It then evaluates whether they can read the catalog and understand the information required to make a purchase decision, including product attributes, availability and other structured data. Commerce checks determine whether an agent can interact with the cart, checkout and payment flow.
Every result traces back to an individual probe that merchants can open to see what the scanner found and why it affected the score. During its beta period, retailers ran more than 8,600 on-demand scans through “Ready, Set, Agent,” signaling early interest in understanding and improving AI agent readiness.
The assessment separates the infrastructure handled by commerce platforms from the elements merchants control directly. Platforms increasingly provide the transaction rails that allow an agent to complete a purchase through a retailer’s existing checkout. Merchants can improve their own readiness by making product information complete and accessible, allowing approved AI crawlers to reach the storefront, keeping relevant products available without login requirements and publishing the technical files and signals agents use to navigate a site.
“A lot of retailers are further along than they realize because the commerce infrastructure beneath their storefront has already evolved,” Singhal said. “Platforms are beginning to expose the capabilities agents need to search catalogs, build carts and complete transactions. That changes the retailers’ jobs. The priority is understanding which capabilities are already in place, where the gaps sit on their own storefront and which changes will have the greatest impact on whether an agent can successfully shop with them.”
Four Levels of Agent Readiness
InMobi grouped the U.S. storefronts it measured into four readiness profiles based on what an AI agent can do today. Each profile gives merchants a clear starting point for improving their stores.
Superagent (36 percent; a score of 90+). The store supports the full agent shopping journey. An AI agent can find and understand products, build a cart and complete a purchase through the retailer’s existing checkout.
Special Agent (15 percent; a score of 70–89). The commerce and transaction infrastructure is already in place. AI agents can interact with cart and checkout, while gaps in discoverability or product availability may limit how easily they find, understand or recommend a retailer’s products.
Field Agent (12 percent; a score of 40–69). An AI agent can access and interpret a storefront and its catalog, but the path to purchase is incomplete. The retailer’s primary opportunity is connecting that product visibility to cart, checkout and payment capabilities.
Sleeper Agent (37 percent; a score below 40). These storefronts have not yet been assigned a readiness score. Their maturity across discovery, product understanding and transaction capabilities remains to be determined.
Availability
“Ready, Set, Agent” is available now here. The tool requires no login or installation and works with any public storefront. Each assessment includes an overall readiness score, category-level results and the individual findings behind all 80 probes.
